Demon Jalandhar is tempted by his wife Brinda's description about the beauty of Goddess Parbati. When he sets out on his mission to captivate Goddess Parbati, he gets into a bloody war with Lord Shiva. However, Lord Shiva is unable to finish the war as he can't kill Jalandhar as long as his wife Brinda's chastity is intact. Amidst these complications, Lord Bishnu steps up and goes to Brinda's house at night in Jalandhar's disguise. He destroys Brinda's chastity and consequently Lord Shiva kills Jalandhar at war the same night. When Brinda realizes that she has been duped by Lord Bishnu, she curses him to be separated with his beloved and transformed into stone and grass.
In Hari Om, Lord Bishnu, the persona of the song, narrates this story, in a slightly deconstructed theme where his deeds are not glorified as in the religious history.
