대봉도문 선사님은 1950년 미국 필라델피아의 유태인가정에서 태어나셨습니다. 코네티컷 트리니티 칼리지에서 심리학을 전공하셨으며 1977년 뉴헤이븐 선원에서 숭산 선사님을 만나 수행을 시작하셨습니다. 1984년 화계사에서 출가하여 1992년 인가를 받고 1999년 4월에 숭산 선사님으로 부터 전법계를 받으셨습니다.

1984년부터 미국 프로비던스의 금강선원 도감을 시작으로 프랑스 파리선원 켈리포니아 무문선원, 보스턴 켐브리지선원 등에서 주지를 역입하였고, 또한 숭산 선사님과 함께 미국, 유럽 남아프리카, 아시아 등 세계 각지로 전법여행을 다시면서 가르침을 펼치셨습닏. 1993년 9월 숭산국제선원 무상사를 짓기 시작하면서 한국에 정착하였고 관음 젠 스님 아시아지역을 대표하는 선사로서 지난 40년간 한국과 세계 여러 나라에서 선을 가르치고 계십니다. 현재 계룡산의 위치한 숭산국제선원 무상사의 조실스님으로 계십니다.

Zen Master Dae Bong Do Mun was born in 1950 in philadclphia, pennsylvania, U.S.A He studied psychology and worked for five years as a counselor in a hospital, the later as a welder at a shipyard. he met his teacher, Zen Master Seung Saha, for the fist time at a dharma talk in New Haven. Connecticut. in 1977 and soon began his practice under the Zen monk in 1984, be reccived inka in 1992 and dharma transmission from Zen Master Seung Sahn over the years, Europe, South Africa, and Asia. For the past forty years, he has live, practiced. and taught throughout the world, with the last twenty-four spent i Asia while residing in South Korea. Zen Master Dae Bong is the Head Zen Master of the Kwan Um school of Zen Master of the Kwan Um School of Zen in Asia and Guiding Teacher (Joshil)of its head temple, Seung Sahn International Zen Center Musangsa in Korea.
