The End Of An Era, Goodbye To The MCI D4000s Of New Jersey Transit

It’s been nearly 24 years since the original demos were delivered, 7501-7503. They were 102-DW3SSs Which were delivered in 2000. A year later in 2001 we get our first official D4000, 7504. Creating a series of buses which had a very long life span. I don’t think anyone could have predicted that they would last THIS long when they first entered service. Lasting more than two decades and around for five presidencies, they helped people get to work for this long. Of course they had issues along the way but they kept on going somehow. Their end wasn’t easy to catch as they were only sent out during rush hours but that point. I will never forget these buses, I will miss seeing them at my childhood mall. That being Garden State Plaza. Hearing them blocks down was always exciting, it’s sad to see that they’ve all retired now just like that. More than two decades though, they definitely need a rest, and I’m glad I captured them till their death.
